The History

In the history all searches actively carried out are saved. Here various editing options are available to you which will simplify your research work.

For users of the Professional version the history will be saved automatically and across session. For users of the Standard version the history will be automatically deleted when closing the programme.

View

In the menu tab “View” you can change the appearance of your history. Here you can select which information (number of documents, applications or families) is displayed in the history by using checkboxes. You can select the individual search histories via mouse click. If you want to select multiple items you can use the well-known Windows commands Ctrl + mouse click or Shift + mouse click.
From version 2.2.24 three different result informations are displayed. In the first column, after the date you can see the number of documents of the found result on publication level. The column Applications corresponds to the number of found results per office based on one application publication. In the third column it is displayed in how many families the results are contained. Further information about applications, documents and families can be found here:

In the history

Once you have selected a history item, four fields (Show, Open, Rename, Compare, Delete) are displayed which you can use to further edit and refine your search history.

If you click the field “Show” the result list of your search at the time of carrying out the search is displayed. This means that this result list will always display the same items, regardless of database updates being carried out.

If you click the field “Open” the search mask will open and the search is transferred into the search mask. If you carry out a new search by using the button Find, the search will be newly carried out and therefore database updates will also be included in the results.

If you click the field “Rename” a text window will open which you can use to assign a new name to your search history.

If you click the tab “Delete” the selected history item will be deleted from the list. You can delete multiple history items by using the Ctrl or Shift key and select the desired items with a mouse click. Proceed by opening the context menu via right click and select the menu item "Delete".

Session

If you press “Session” a menu will open in which you can select if you would like to save the search history, open a previously saved search history or create a search report.

If you would like to save your search history click “Save as”. A new window will open in which you can give the session a name and then save it. You can then open the session again at any time by selecting the field “Open”. A window will open in which the previously saved sessions are displayed. Here you also have the option to rename or delete your saved sessions.

In addition you have the option to create a search report. If you select the item “Search report” a text document is generated which gives you a good overview of your search history and can be used for documenting your search activities.

If you would like to delete the entire history you can easily do this by using the menu item “Delete”.

Search report

In addition you have the option to create a search report. If you select the item “Search report” a text document is generated which gives you a good overview of your search history and can be used for documenting your search activities.

Comparison (Intersection) of searches and results

With the function "Compare" you have the option to compare an already opened result list with other result lists contained in the history.

Proceed as follows:

Select a history item and click on the tab “Compare”. A new window will open in which you can select different ways of comparing your history items.

The following options are available:

OPEN: Opens the result list of the selected search

OR: Links the selected search histories and the currently opened result list with OR

AND: Links the selected search histories and the currently opened result list with AND

NOT: Links the selected result lists from the history and the currently opened result list with NOT

In addition to the previously described option via the “Compare” button you have the option to drag one or more history items into the search mask using Drag-and-Drop. Hereby you can either drag the result list or the search string into the search mask.

If you point your cursor on the left hand side of the window at the result “R” and drag-and-drop it into the search mask, the result list will be transferred into the search mask.

If you point your cursor on the title of the search history and drag-and-drop it into the search mask, the search criteria will be transferred into the search mask and you may carry out your search again.

Another practical feature for linking and editing result lists can be found on the bottom of the history window.

Here you can link result lists by using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT).

Example:

(R1 OR R2) NOT R3

A new result list is generated, displaying the results of your new refined search.

On the search help pages you will find a description on how to use the history to link searches and lists with each other (link with OP, AND, NOT)
